That Yellow Mumu Dress

November 17, 2017
mumu dress imcannabess

Remember the dress I purchased for my cousin’s wedding? You know, the one I forgot to pack? Well this is it — a vibrant yellow, chiffon Show Me Your Mumu dress!

Now normally I wouldn’t stress about forgetting a dress, but this isn’t just any dress and I didn’t purchase it for just any wedding. My cousin recently married a woman whose grandfather served as the President of Mexico. Wedding attire called for formal, and I wanted to branch out from my all black everything.

Blazed and Bundled in The Arrivals

November 14, 2017
the arrivals

Fall has arrived, so what better way to stay warm than a new jacket from The Arrivals? I’ve been eyeing the Moya III since last spring, so sprung when I saw it advertised on Instagram.

I absolutely hate being cold, which played a big part in this purchase. The Moya III is built for extreme conditions. Thirty degrees or below? No problem! With water-resistant Merino shearling and an insulting 16mm wool interior, whatever the weather I stay warm.

Making Shapes with Triangl Swimwear

November 12, 2017
triangl swimwear

Happy Stoney Sunday! How do you wake and bake? If you're me, it involves a morning smoke sesh in Triangl swimwear with Arielle Levy.

I had the opportunity to work with Arielle during my last trip to California. She's an amazing fashion and lifestyle photographer in the San Diego area. So what does one wear when rolling out of bed and rolling up joints? I threw on this orange bikini by Triangl swimwear and one of my favorite jackets by Vintage Redeux. Glasses provided by Arielle.

Don't let the feminine aspect fool you. If you support cannabis, anyone can be a Cannabis Feminist. I recently attended one of their Happiest Hours and spoke with founder Jessica Assaf about femininity and her favorite flower.

So what is Cannabis Feminist? It's a community to celebrate the female flower and her ability to heal the world. This women-run organization is on a mission to transform cannabis into a universal wellness program and empower women to lead the industry.

Happy Halloweed 2017

October 31, 2017
halloweed 2017

Trick or treat! It’s one of my favorite holidays — Halloween. However, working in weed, it’s been appropriately renamed Halloweed. To celebrate the season, we ventured to a local farm in search of pumpkin spice sativa.

Last year High Times voted me one of their Ten Best Halloweed Photos, so how do I top that? By working with one of Seattle’s best, and quickest rising photographers, the talented Dillon Ivory. Dillon is known for beautiful portraits, stunning styling and soft tones. So working with him was on my bucket list.

National Cat Day with Barry White

October 29, 2017
national cat day

It’s no secret my best friend is every cat ever, which is why I’m sparking up Berry White joints by Solstice for National Cat Day.

National Cat Day was founded as a way to bring awareness to the number of homeless cats. It takes place on October 29th every year in the United States. The official website states the holiday was first celebrated in 2005 “to help galvanize the public to recognize the number of cats that need to be rescued each year and also to encourage cat lovers to celebrate the cat in their life for the unconditional love and companionship they bestow upon us.”

Show Me Fall in Show Me Your Mumu

show me your mumu

It’s starting to feel like fall. The leaves are changing, the air is crisp and colors in the PNW are popping. That’s why I’m changing it up from my all black everything with a little help from Show Me Your Mumu.

Show Me Your Mumu is a staple in my closet. Their flowy, boho apparel is easy to dress up or dress down. I wear my dresses with flats, heels, boots — heck, even barefoot!

Lazy Bee Gardens — A Sustainable Weed Grow

October 4, 2017
sustainable weed grow

Tucked in the Methow Valley and next to a winding river lies a majestic weed grow. However, this isn’t just any grow. It’s Lazy Bee Gardens — a stunning sun-grown, sustainable weed grow.

I first met the Lazy Bee team whilst talking tax reform at the 2015 DOPE Awards. I visited the farm last fall and fell in love with their message — sustainable, organic farming the way nature intended. No till and no pesticides for these plants.

Canna Curious Club’s Weekend Recap

October 3, 2017
canna curious club

Canna curious? I don’t blame you, I am too, which is why I flew to Los Angles to attend the Canna Curious Club getaway. This retreat included guest speakers, an infused dinner and Sunday SESSION for one unforgettable weekend.

The weekend started out with Friends in High Places, a networking event and speaking panel. Discussions ranged from prop styling and photography to women’s sexual health in the age of legal cannabis. Speakers included Andrew Gibbs from The Dieline and the always fabulous April Pride of Van der Pop.

The year? 2016. I’d been in the legal industry nin The year? 2016. I’d been in the legal industry nine months, and this would mark my first full year in i502.

In February 2016, a Tinder date asked if people called me Cannabess. I said, “No, but they’re about to.”

I started my account a few days later and found it easy to grow an audience. Sure, Instagram had restrictions on *garden* content, but the timeline was chronological and they didn’t have AI flagging photos. Nug shots were a huge part of my feed, and I remember the first time one broke 500 likes. Then High Times shared my photos and I realized there might be something here.

That April, I’d go from working for a single farm, to working at a creative agency which allowed me to photograph one of the biggest grows in the state. I saw SO. MUCH. W33D. And social media loved it. I’d take pictures in the bloom rooms, holding massive bins, and tubs of pre-rolls. People weren’t used to seeing it. Repost pages would share my work and get thousands of likes.

I started to shoot more lifestyle content (which wasn’t really a thing then) and it opened even more doors. I smoked joints at the top of the mountains, next to lush waterfalls, basically anywhere I could. Friends and I would get dressed up to do editorials for fun. Then brands started to want lifestyle content as a way to break the stigma of the plant.

@LazyBeeGardens invited me to photograph their farm, and it was my first time seeing sun grown plants. The photos I shot here took my content to the next level and resulted in a repost from Tommy Chong. I couldn’t believe it.

2016 seems like just yesterday, but it also feels like a lifetime ago. I was only 29, getting ready to embark on the next decade, and a whole new chapter in life. I am forever thankful for the doors the industry opened and that part of my story. It’s wild to look back on and if the growth of the next decade is anything like the last, I can’t wait for what’s ahead. 🍁🙏🏼📸

Where were you in 2016?

In 2015, I found my career at a crossroads. I was In 2015, I found my career at a crossroads. I was already in politics and living in LA, when I got a job offer in a budding industry.

Do I move to DC and pursue politics or do I move back to my home state of Washington and jump into pot?

Everyone told me to go to DC, but @wilrbyers was the only one who said to get into the industry. “It’s recession proof,” he said.

Over the years my mom would say things like, “Do you ever think about if you’d gotten into politics?”

But the whole experience really showed how everything happens when the time is right. The industry opened so many doors, was a pivotal point in my career, and eventually led me back to politics.

How did you end up in the industry? 💁🏻‍♀️📸🌱 #cannabess

Your conspiracy theorist friend was right and you Your conspiracy theorist friend was right and you owe them an apology.

It’s kind of crazy to look back at COVID and realize all my predictions came true. The pandemic led to a massive increase in new government debt and an erosion of freedom. Masks didn’t work and vaccine mandates were next. The vaccine also didn’t work and had a slew of life-altering side effects. Medical segregation was wrong and should never have happened.

At the time, I remember being so distraught. I got put on a “Karen’s” page (most likely by women in weed) because I spoke out against mask mandates. Clients canceled contracts. I saw my income decline almost $10K a month. Thousands of people unfollowed me every time I spoke out. People emailed me to say they hope I got COVID and died. I lost best friends of decades and familial relationships will never be the same. And guess what? I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

In hindsight, the pandemic was the best thing that ever happened to me. It revealed peoples’ true authoritarian colors and opened the door for new, freedom-focused friendships. It led me from pot back to politics, where I am thriving. I look back at the pandemic and laugh because not only was I right, I also don’t have to worry about myocarditis.

I’ve had only one person apologize for their treatment of me during the pandemic, and it truly meant more than I can put into words. It’s not too late to apologize to your conspiracy theorist friend. So put your ego aside, pick up the phone, and say sorry.

This year I shot a lot of cannabis content but bar This year I shot a lot of cannabis content but barely posted any of it. Why?

I found myself burnt out, uninspired in the industry and honestly, sick of staring at a screen. My hormones were totally out of whack and as a result, my hair kept falling out. I’d neglected my health and hated how I looked in photos. So in July, at the guidance of my naturopath, I did a 30-day detox. I quit my favorite plant cold turkey. Then my detox just kind of extended to 113 days. Honestly, the only reason I even smoked again was for a photo shoot (which I never even posted).

So anyway, here’s a recap of 2024 content that never made the feed. Maybe I’ll post more in the upcoming year, or maybe my energy is just shifting from pot to politics, where I’ve seen an insane amount of growth the last 365 days.

If you want to see what I’m doing outside of the industry, follow my personal page @BessByers where I am more active and who knows, maybe the break this year is the motivation I need for the next year? 🍁🤷🏻‍♀️📸 #Cannabess

So, my 30 day detox turned into 90, but I’m easing So, my 30 day detox turned into 90, but I’m easing back into the swing of things this weekend with one of my favorite infused beverages — @drinksungaze.

However, I like to add a little something extra to my drinks. The muddled strawberries give me flashbacks to the unlimited strawberry lemonade I would down at a popular burger joint as a kid.

I recommend Sungaze to EVERYONE (especially the strawberry citrus) because they are so tasty and the perfect micro dose. No joke. Loved ones who don’t consume say these help them sleep better at night. Friends who want a healthier alternative to wine have replaced their afterwork glass with a can of Sungaze. When I find myself in social settings where people day drink, I’ll bring these and be the last one standing.

If you’re in Washington, these are a must-try and in case you’re wondering… No, this isn’t sponsored. They’re just that good. 🍓🍋🍁 #cannabess

Sounds like a good reason to decriminalize, so people can grow their own and not be dependent on corrupt, corporate cannabis Chads who never grew prior to legalization.

Why are conservatives, including some Congressmen, taking money from big pot companies (who spray glyphosate) without proudly announcing this partnership?
