Wallace Falls Welcomes Just Another Jay to Washington

July 20, 2018
just another jay blog

Cameron and Nick of Just Another Jay recently completed an epic West Coast road trip. I had the joy of meeting up with these two gentlemen during their time in the Pacific Northwest. Naturally I wanted to show them how we do in i502, so I brought one of my favorite brands — Lazy Bee Gardens — to one of my favorite locations — Wallace Falls — for a very Washington weed adventure.

Before we even made it to Wallace Falls, we met up at the cannabis friendly Mountain Views B&B. The guys stayed in their pot leaf cabin, which is conveniently located next to a bazillion beautiful hikes. After a meet-and-greet with the wonderful owner Tracey, we hit the trail.

Is it the sun? The cannabis? Nope, it's BRNT's new accessories collection and it drops today!

BRNT is a Canadian based cannabis accessories line. You've probably seen their Hexagon bong featured on my page a time or two. It's ceramic, chic and I love it. I felt beyond excited when BRNT's team reached out about promoting additional accessories hitting the market today. COUNT. ME. IN.

Emerald Exchange Summer Solstice Recap

July 3, 2018
emerald exchange summer solstice

A couple weeks ago I attended the Emerald Exchange Summer Solstice event — Le Jardin Secret. I went to the last Emerald Exchange and described it as “one of the most beautiful events of my life.” So naturally upon being invited back, I jumped at the chance. I couldn't wait to see what the team planned next.

This stunning space, known as Hummingbird Temple, is nestled high in the Hollywood Hills of Laurel Canyon. It featured the finest sun grown brands from the Emerald Triangle including Stone Road Farms, Terravida, Sticky Fields Kiskanu. But the event wasn't all flower. Accessories brands like Purr Glass, Haute Smokes and Ryot also made appearances.

Smoking Like It’s 1971 with Eve Farms

June 22, 2018
eve farms imcannabess

It’s Fashion Friday but it certainly looks like a Flashback Friday with Eve Farms and Fauxy Furr Vintage. I rolled up some delicious Sour Patch flower in RAW cones during our last trip to SoCal, for a very groovy high.

During our trip to Palm Springs, Cameron and I decided to stay an extra night in Joshua Tree. I found this gem on AirBNB and knew we needed to stay here. The listing proudly states the house has been untouched since 1971 (as if the wallpaper didn’t give it away). Sometimes I get a photo vision and I’m lucky to have a guy who goes with it. So that’s just what we did.

Toronto’s Lift Expo with Choom

June 14, 2018
lift expo toronto

Choom brought the spirit of Hawaii to Toronto, to kick off their official launch at the 2018 Lift Expo. Lift draws attendees from around the world, so the team couldn’t wait to debut their brand. From the Hawaiian inspired booth to sneak peeks of apparel, everyone wanted to join the Choom gang.

Lift Expo, also known as Lift & Co., is Canada’s signature event for cannabis consumers, professionals and investors. The expo featured hundreds of exhibitors, more than 60 speakers and over a thousand attendees. Speakers covered topics including product diversification, Canada’s legal landscape and even medical cannabis treatments in veterinary medicine. Everyone from cannabis connoisseurs to the canna curious came out to ride the green wave, and Choom brought the board.

Smoking Around Seattle with Green Revolution’s Joysticks

May 31, 2018
joysticks

Jump for joy because Green Revolution’s new Joysticks have hit i502 markets. To celebrate the launch, Ray and I spent a sunny Saturday exploring Seattle. From flying high with their sativa or seeking relief with CBD and yoga, these pre-rolls make it easy to puff our preference.

We started the day a very Seattle way, with a sativa, pitstop at Ghost Alley Espresso and pictures around the infamous gum wall. Next, we smoked a little hybrid in a rooftop garden. After we relaxed with yoga and CBD in the Sculpture Park. Our day wrapped with an indica around the Space Needle. We smoked joint after joint. Each one burned evenly with clean, white ash.

The Winston House with Wikileaf and Heylo Cannabis

May 23, 2018
winston house seattle

What a wonderful weekend lighting up with Wikileaf and Heylo Cannabis! Heylo and Wikileaf host an event called Heylo Sessions merging two of our favorite things — marijuana and music. This session took place at an especially stunning venue, The Winston House.

The Winston House is a cannabis-friendly bed and breakfast located in the heart Seattle. This space is speckled with crystals and house plants and it oozes positive energy. Or is that the epic afternoon light? Either way, there are dozens of nooks and crannies to take photos, light up and kick back. And that’s exactly what we did.

Tarukino’s Washington Cannabis Beverages

May 11, 2018
Cannabis Beverages

From the forest to the city, I take Tarukino’s cannabis beverages everywhere. Whether we’re adventuring in the mountains with Happy Apple, or shooting photos around Capitol Hill with Utopia, I love the natural flavors and relaxing high of these drinks.

Our adventure started in the mountains at Rattlesnake Lake. This is one of my favorite places to enjoy the effects of cannabis. Hiking to the ledge or shooting photos lakeside, Happy Apple is the ideal addition. If you like sparkling cider (this girl can drink a bottle of Martinelli’s in one sitting) you will love these beverages available in 10mg, 30mg and 100mg. Happy Apple tastes like real cider — because it is. You’ll only find Washington grown apples in these bottles!

420 On the Block Recap

May 10, 2018
420 On the Block

#TBT to getting mile high, making memories and jamming out to my favorite musicians at 420 On the Block. This epic event is Denver’s only three-day 4/20 music fest, so you know it’s lit. I couldn’t wait to hang with Ladies of Paradise and connect with the Colorado cannabis community.

My weed filled weekend started on April 19th with a flight to Denver. I checked into the Moxy Cherry Creek, which is a cute boutique hotel in a fun part of town. Ladies of Paradise arrived shortly after. We celebrated with drinks and a smoke sesh. Ok, I also took a nap… Then we kicked off our arrival at Sensi Magazine’s party. I even recognized a few familiar i502 faces — @DominiqueDabs and @RespectMyRegion!

Weed Crush Wednesday: Henna and Cannabis with Natasha Singh

May 9, 2018
Henna Cannabis Natasha Singh

I'm dedicating this Weed Crush Wednesday to the talented henna artist and cannabis advocate, Natasha Singh. I recently spoke with Natasha about her art, how cannabis influences it and what it's like breaking down barriers for Indian women in the cannabis community.

How long have you been doing henna? What got you into it? Tell me about your backstory.
It was like 2008, 2009'ish. I was working at BECU at a call center and I picked it up as a hobby. I became so obsessed with it I decided to quit my job and go to beauty school. It's been a fun journey, I've been self-taught. I went from drawing on my hands, to drawing on paper to drawing on family members.

This team does amazing work, so I absolutely loved getting a BTS of their operation. Their flower is always so frosty (I mean, look at that nug on the drying rack!) and I am especially fond of their pheno hunts. Even after a decade in the industry, I am always blown away by beautiful farms like Freddy’s.

Who here has 💨 their 🍁? If so, share your experience below and fingers crossed for another pheno hunt event in the near future! 🤞🏼🌿 #cannabess

This year I shot a lot of cannabis content but bar This year I shot a lot of cannabis content but barely posted any of it. Why?

I found myself burnt out, uninspired in the industry and honestly, sick of staring at a screen. My hormones were totally out of whack and as a result, my hair kept falling out. I’d neglected my health and hated how I looked in photos. So in July, at the guidance of my naturopath, I did a 30-day detox. I quit my favorite plant cold turkey. Then my detox just kind of extended to 113 days. Honestly, the only reason I even smoked again was for a photo shoot (which I never even posted).

So anyway, here’s a recap of 2024 content that never made the feed. Maybe I’ll post more in the upcoming year, or maybe my energy is just shifting from pot to politics, where I’ve seen an insane amount of growth the last 365 days.

If you want to see what I’m doing outside of the industry, follow my personal page @BessByers where I am more active and who knows, maybe the break this year is the motivation I need for the next year? 🍁🤷🏻‍♀️📸 #Cannabess

So, my 30 day detox turned into 90, but I’m easi So, my 30 day detox turned into 90, but I’m easing back into the swing of things this weekend with one of my favorite infused beverages — @drinksungaze.

However, I like to add a little something extra to my drinks. The muddled strawberries give me flashbacks to the unlimited strawberry lemonade I would down at a popular burger joint as a kid.

I recommend Sungaze to EVERYONE (especially the strawberry citrus) because they are so tasty and the perfect micro dose. No joke. Loved ones who don’t consume say these help them sleep better at night. Friends who want a healthier alternative to wine have replaced their afterwork glass with a can of Sungaze. When I find myself in social settings where people day drink, I’ll bring these and be the last one standing.

If you’re in Washington, these are a must-try and in case you’re wondering… No, this isn’t sponsored. They’re just that good. 🍓🍋🍁 #cannabess

I quit smoking weed. Well, for now anyway. A coup I quit smoking weed. Well, for now anyway.

A couple months ago I went to a naturopath for some health issues. I suspected they could be lifestyle related so we had a ton of bloodwork done. During our meeting, I asked if weed could be the cause of these issues and my cannabis-friendly naturopath asked how often I consume it.

I was like, “Well, I like to smoke in the evenings before I workout. I also enjoy smoking when I clean the house, go hike or hang out with friends. And I consume a decent amount when I’m on a shoot.”

She looked at me like 😳😳😳.

Then she suggested maybe I do a THC detox. So I did. I put a date on my calendar and quit cold turkey. What started out as “No High July” extended into August and will probably continue until my next round of bloodwork.

I’m not quitting cannabis entirely and I will absolutely smoke again, but this whole experience made me rethink my relationship with this plant and be more mindful in my consumption.

When I posted about my cannabis detox on stories last month, I received a ton of inquiries so filmed a video answering all your questions. Click the link in my bio or head to my stories to watch why I quit smoking weed (for now). 🍃🙏🏼💚 #cannabess

Let’s talk burnout. This spring I found myself Let’s talk burnout.

This spring I found myself juggling multiple projects. Between political work, agency work and sponsored content, I was slammed. I love what I do and wish our bodies didn’t need downtime.

But after my grandma passed, I was on brink of burnout. At the end of my workday, I couldn’t even bring myself to stare at a screen. Shooting content for fun felt like a chore. I thought I looked tired in all my photos. Styling, setting up a camera and shooting? UGH. I’d wake up in the morning with anxiety at the *need* to post. I felt guilty at night for not editing photos. Then as the days progressed, I thought I needed some sort of “comeback.” When in reality, it didn’t matter.

On Sunday morning, Instagram deactivated and then reactivated my account (again). It was the creative spark I needed to use this audio I’ve had saved for months and share everything I’ve done while not posting.

So as my “comeback” here are three tips that helped me overcome burnout:

1. Focus on projects that matter most. For me, that’s my political and client work. It’s been hard to stay motivated with this account when it’s so heavily censored. My political content has gone viral lately, getting millions of views with reposts from people like Alex Jones and Jordan Peterson. Prioritizing what performs best made it easy to direct my energy there.

2. Make time for the things you love. For me, it’s been more time outdoors. I’ve done a lot of paddle boarding, swimming in the river and soaking in hot springs.

3. Remember, social media isn’t reality. You can take a break for a week, month, or year and come back anytime. Sure you might lose followers, but who cares. Peace of mind is more important than a number on an app. Your friends and followers will be excited to see you return. They’ll also understand that time offline is essential.

Has anyone else experienced burnout? I feel like it’s so common in this digitally connected world. If so, how did you beat it? 🧠🙏🏼💨 #Cannabess

Last night at 5PM my grandma Jenny Lorene Belleau Last night at 5PM my grandma Jenny Lorene Belleau Byers passed on to the afterlife. While I am sad she’s no longer physically with us, I’m crying tears of joy at all the memories we shared together.

And this was a special one. In 2019 I took her to Hashtag’s Guided Shopping for Seniors. As an avid gardener and garden club member, I couldn’t wait for her to experience the magic of this plant.

My grandma learned about everything from topicals to terpenes, and cannabinoids to canna brands. She was so excited and told all her friends about the experience.

The 🍃 industry has been full of memories, but this is one I will cherish forever. Ok, and the time she caught my cousin and I smoking in the garage on Christmas. The look on her face… Priceless.

To watch the whole video from our visit to Hashtag, click the link in my bio. And if you have a grandparent still alive, give them a big hug (or at least a phone call) today. 🤍🙏🏼🕊️ #cannabess

Wow, the response to yesterday’s story was overw Wow, the response to yesterday’s story was overwhelming. The number of women who shared their own experiences of bullying and mistreatment at the hands of other women in this industry is heartbreaking.

While there are certainly a few faces in this space that are unkind to others, there are also an overwhelming number of women in weed who are absolutely amazing. And I’m lucky to have connected with so many of them over the years.

So today I’m highlighting a few of the fabulous females I’ve photographed. From cozy cabins to calf-burning hikes, I am thankful to share unforgettable memories with these canna queens.

Ladies, let’s make some friends in the comments. Share where you are based and what activities you enjoy after consuming this plant! 🍁🙌🏼❤️ #cannabess

Accumulating wealth for yourself and your family isn’t greed.

Stealing wealth from some and redistributing it to others via government isn’t benevolence.

Trust no one telling you otherwise.

It's the failed criminal justice reform and tolerance for homeless fentanyl addicts pushed by far left politicians. Criminals are no longer held accountable for crimes and in cases like this, the perpetrator profits off it.
