Lazy Bee Gardens — Sustainable, Sun Grown Cannabis

September 7, 2016

Lazy Bee Gardens is a sun grown Tier 3 located in the breathtaking Methow Valley. Their sustainable farming methods mean cannabis is grown the way nature intended — pesticide free.

What sets Lazy Bee Garden apart is their soil. Matt, the owner, uses locally sourced, organic soil amendments, mulches and companion crops. He brews Actively Aerated Compost Teas (AACT). After a few days of steeping, Matt adds this brew of probiotics to the soil.

Marijuana Mania at Northwest Cannabis Solutions

September 5, 2016

Berner made a recent appearance at Northwest Cannabis Solutions. The musician, mogul and cannabis connoisseur is filming an upcoming episode of Marijuana Mania. His script? Show everyone how Washington does weed.

The tour started in NWCS's state-of-the-art extraction lab. Berner and guide, Leo, looked at a recent batch of distillate. Leo explained the different extract methods and is pictured above with their Heidolph rotary evaporators. The guys even poured out an estimated $500k in clear concentrates.

Cannabess Goes to Cabo San Lucas

September 1, 2016

Every other summer, Mom and I spend a week at Hacienda Encandata in Cabo San Lucas. What started as an impulse purchase after too many mimosas at a timeshare tour, has turned into a decade of travel. This year, however, marks the first year Cannabess goes to Cabo.

This trip started one week later than planned. Unbeknownst to Mom, that *enhanced* ID only works via land and sea, not air travel. Her passport? Three hours from us expired in a desk. Picture us at the airport around 5 AM being told we cannot board our flight. Lesson learned the hard way.

DOPE Magazine’s Hempfest After Party

August 20, 2016

Ain’t to party like a Hempfest party! Hempfest wouldn’t be complete without DOPE Magazine‘s epic afterparty.

This year’s event took place on a rooftop terrace in Belltown. I typically mingle at these events, however took a break during golden hour to photograph the beautiful Kitty Kitty Bang Bang. Her unique vintage dress and headscarf caught my attention. I knew this would be an impulse editorial.

These Boots Are Made for Blazing

August 14, 2016

These boots are made of blazing, and that’s just what they’ll do. One of these days these vintage boots are gonna blaze all over you.

Fauxy Furr Vintage recently finished construction on their new bootique. This renovated trailer is a vintage haven on wheels. Chrysta and Jill, the brains behind Fauxy Furr, pulled out all the stops. Shelves for boots, racks for coats and of course a giant mirror to scope yourself out.

Smoking Out Mount Si

August 7, 2016

It’s one of Washington state’s most iconic skylines. Some say it looks like an indian laying on his back. So today we’re smoking out Mount Si.

Nicole, Yunks and I met at BelMar in Bellevue, before hitting I-90 east. We scouted a couple locations in North Bend in hunt of the perfect view. I wanted open fields with visibility of Mount Si.

Puffing Atop Mount Pilchuck Trail

August 6, 2016

It's one of Washington's most popular trails. Atop the rocky ridge is a white lookout tower. A large boulder makes the perfect place to smoke while the sun sets. We're high on life hiking Mount Pilchuck Trail.

Amy, Cam and I trekked this gem on a warm summer day. Before hitting the trail, we met at Safeway. We scored on snacks because Mount Pilchuck Trail is a beast. In the parking lot, Cam realized he forgot his dab rig. I needed one, so purchased a mini piece to fit in my pack.

Van der Pop Snapchat Takeover — Capitol Hill Block Party 2016

July 23, 2016

For Capitol Hill Block Party 2016, Van der Pop asked me to participate in their Snapchat takeover. How could I pass up three things I love — social media, music and this female-owned cannabis line? Ladies, count me in.

Van der Pop partnered with the Goodship Company to sponsor the Cloud Room's VIP event. Guests could sip on cocktails, mingle with artists and overlook performances at Capitol Hill Block Party 2016. I shared stories on Snapchat while Van der Pop founder April Pride interviewed attendees.

Blazing Boulder River

July 17, 2016

This weekend’s hike is one of my favorites thus far. It didn’t feel like Washington, but instead a lush, tropical paradise. Large rocks, fallen trees and a mossy waterfall split in two look even better when you’re blazed at Boulder River.

Andrea and I started our hike bright and early. Early arrival meant fewer people and soft light. We loaded our backpacks with swimsuits, hot shorts and sunnies. It’s a relatively easy hike, so no worries about wearing off makeup.

The year? 2016. I’d been in the legal industry nin The year? 2016. I’d been in the legal industry nine months, and this would mark my first full year in i502.

In February 2016, a Tinder date asked if people called me Cannabess. I said, “No, but they’re about to.”

I started my account a few days later and found it easy to grow an audience. Sure, Instagram had restrictions on *garden* content, but the timeline was chronological and they didn’t have AI flagging photos. Nug shots were a huge part of my feed, and I remember the first time one broke 500 likes. Then High Times shared my photos and I realized there might be something here.

That April, I’d go from working for a single farm, to working at a creative agency which allowed me to photograph one of the biggest grows in the state. I saw SO. MUCH. W33D. And social media loved it. I’d take pictures in the bloom rooms, holding massive bins, and tubs of pre-rolls. People weren’t used to seeing it. Repost pages would share my work and get thousands of likes.

I started to shoot more lifestyle content (which wasn’t really a thing then) and it opened even more doors. I smoked joints at the top of the mountains, next to lush waterfalls, basically anywhere I could. Friends and I would get dressed up to do editorials for fun. Then brands started to want lifestyle content as a way to break the stigma of the plant.

@LazyBeeGardens invited me to photograph their farm, and it was my first time seeing sun grown plants. The photos I shot here took my content to the next level and resulted in a repost from Tommy Chong. I couldn’t believe it.

2016 seems like just yesterday, but it also feels like a lifetime ago. I was only 29, getting ready to embark on the next decade, and a whole new chapter in life. I am forever thankful for the doors the industry opened and that part of my story. It’s wild to look back on and if the growth of the next decade is anything like the last, I can’t wait for what’s ahead. 🍁🙏🏼📸

In 2015, I found my career at a crossroads. I was In 2015, I found my career at a crossroads. I was already in politics and living in LA, when I got a job offer in a budding industry.

Do I move to DC and pursue politics or do I move back to my home state of Washington and jump into pot?

Everyone told me to go to DC, but @wilrbyers was the only one who said to get into the industry. “It’s recession proof,” he said.

Over the years my mom would say things like, “Do you ever think about if you’d gotten into politics?”

But the whole experience really showed how everything happens when the time is right. The industry opened so many doors, was a pivotal point in my career, and eventually led me back to politics.

How did you end up in the industry? 💁🏻‍♀️📸🌱 #cannabess

Your conspiracy theorist friend was right and you Your conspiracy theorist friend was right and you owe them an apology.

It’s kind of crazy to look back at COVID and realize all my predictions came true. The pandemic led to a massive increase in new government debt and an erosion of freedom. Masks didn’t work and vaccine mandates were next. The vaccine also didn’t work and had a slew of life-altering side effects. Medical segregation was wrong and should never have happened.

At the time, I remember being so distraught. I got put on a “Karen’s” page (most likely by women in weed) because I spoke out against mask mandates. Clients canceled contracts. I saw my income decline almost $10K a month. Thousands of people unfollowed me every time I spoke out. People emailed me to say they hope I got COVID and died. I lost best friends of decades and familial relationships will never be the same. And guess what? I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

In hindsight, the pandemic was the best thing that ever happened to me. It revealed peoples’ true authoritarian colors and opened the door for new, freedom-focused friendships. It led me from pot back to politics, where I am thriving. I look back at the pandemic and laugh because not only was I right, I also don’t have to worry about myocarditis.

I’ve had only one person apologize for their treatment of me during the pandemic, and it truly meant more than I can put into words. It’s not too late to apologize to your conspiracy theorist friend. So put your ego aside, pick up the phone, and say sorry.

This year I shot a lot of cannabis content but bar This year I shot a lot of cannabis content but barely posted any of it. Why?

I found myself burnt out, uninspired in the industry and honestly, sick of staring at a screen. My hormones were totally out of whack and as a result, my hair kept falling out. I’d neglected my health and hated how I looked in photos. So in July, at the guidance of my naturopath, I did a 30-day detox. I quit my favorite plant cold turkey. Then my detox just kind of extended to 113 days. Honestly, the only reason I even smoked again was for a photo shoot (which I never even posted).

So anyway, here’s a recap of 2024 content that never made the feed. Maybe I’ll post more in the upcoming year, or maybe my energy is just shifting from pot to politics, where I’ve seen an insane amount of growth the last 365 days.

If you want to see what I’m doing outside of the industry, follow my personal page @BessByers where I am more active and who knows, maybe the break this year is the motivation I need for the next year? 🍁🤷🏻‍♀️📸 #Cannabess

So, my 30 day detox turned into 90, but I’m easing So, my 30 day detox turned into 90, but I’m easing back into the swing of things this weekend with one of my favorite infused beverages — @drinksungaze.

However, I like to add a little something extra to my drinks. The muddled strawberries give me flashbacks to the unlimited strawberry lemonade I would down at a popular burger joint as a kid.

I recommend Sungaze to EVERYONE (especially the strawberry citrus) because they are so tasty and the perfect micro dose. No joke. Loved ones who don’t consume say these help them sleep better at night. Friends who want a healthier alternative to wine have replaced their afterwork glass with a can of Sungaze. When I find myself in social settings where people day drink, I’ll bring these and be the last one standing.

If you’re in Washington, these are a must-try and in case you’re wondering… No, this isn’t sponsored. They’re just that good. 🍓🍋🍁 #cannabess

Sounds like a good reason to decriminalize, so people can grow their own and not be dependent on corrupt, corporate cannabis Chads who never grew prior to legalization.

Why are conservatives, including some Congressmen, taking money from big pot companies (who spray glyphosate) without proudly announcing this partnership?

We don’t need to reschedule cannabis @realDonaldTrump @RobertKennedyJr, we need to decriminalize it. Rescheduling only gives the power of this plant to Big Pharma. Government has no business regulating a flower people can grow at home.
