Oregon Road Trip with Chrysta and Crew

December 6, 2016

Puff, puff, PDX! Last weekend Chrysta and I embarked on an Oregon road trip from Seattle to Eugene.

Our adventure started later than planned. Chrysta’s van battery died, then upon jumping her car realized my front headlight burnt out. Undeterred after minor mechanic work, we left Seattle around 9 PM. On the bright side, the late departure helped us beat traffic. Well, for the exception of a tanker truck flipped on the highway closing four lanes of traffic…

Macro Monday with Inflorescence LLC’s Strawberry pie

December 5, 2016

I’m a creature of habit, so I usually smoke strains I know. However, after my recent shoot with Taylor, she gifted me this gorgeous nug of Inflorescence LLC‘s Strawberry Pie strain. It’s so delicious, I couldn’t help but share for Macro Monday!

Rogue River Botanicals

December 4, 2016

Thank you Rogue River Botanicals for being my first out-of-state grow to photograph!

Rogue River Botanicals is the brainchild of several friends who dreamt of the day weed would be legal. Unbeknownst to them, the Maui Wowie and Seattle Skunk previously grown would pale in comparison to the chronic soon coming.

Smoke Christmas Trees

December 1, 2016

For Christmas trees near Seattle, you can go to the Crown Tree Farm. You can also go to your local cannabis shop, because in the PNW we smoke our Christmas trees.

Chrysta and I teamed up for a Fauxy Furr Vintage holiday shoot. A last-minute model cancelation meant we became the models. I guess this is why I always keep my mani camera ready.

Strain Spotlight — Super Lemon Haze by Legends

November 26, 2016

There’s a reason Pineapple Express gave mention to the Super Lemon Haze strain. It’s legendary, a favorite among cannabis consumers. In fact, Super Lemon Haze is without a doubt my favorite strain.

Also known as the SLH, Super Lemon Haze is a strong sativa guaranteed to help you get shit done. This strain is perfect before work outs, to clean the house, to craft with friends — you name it. One whiff of its pungent aroma will leave you feeling energized.

Happy Danksgiving 2016

November 23, 2016

Working in weed I have a lot to be thankful for. Legal weed, employment at an amazing company and content creation for budding brands are a few reasons to give thanks. Consequently, this Thanksgiving is Danksgiving.

I want to share a few of my favorite companies, so you too can turn Thanksgiving into Danksgiving.

Strain Spotlight — Headband by Legends

November 12, 2016

If you’re looking for a high that feels like a headband, pack your pipe with the legendary Headband strain.

This potent hybrid is the byproduct of OG Kush and Sour Diesel for a unique flavor and hard-hitting effects. Headband’s smell is a mixture of diesel and lemon, with earthy undertones. The high is often described as “a warm headband” of relaxation around the crown of the head.

2016 Election Results — Americans Vote Legal Weed

November 9, 2016

The 2016 election results made one thing is clear — Americans want legal weed. Nine states voted on recreational cannabis laws. Eight passed.

California, Nevada, Maine and Massachusetts voted in favor of recreational marijuana. North Dakota, Arkansas and Florida said yes to medical marijuana. Montana voters passed laws to make medical use easier. Arizona, the only state to not pass, voted against its recreational law.

November 7, 2016

Hash Plant is a rich, bold indica with dense flowers. Due to the plant’s short flowering time makes, this Sensi Seeds classics is a favorite amongst farmers. One of my florists is Legends by Northwest Cannabis Solutions.

Hash Plant is a hybrid of two indicas — Northern Lights and Afghani. It has an deep, rich woodsy aroma with hints of Hashish. When smoked, this strain has a spicy sharp bite.

2016 Election — I Vote for Weed

November 6, 2016

On Tuesday Americans will vote the lesser of two evils under the guise of freedom. Me? I'm a libertarian. I vote for weed.

Nine states have marijuana laws on the ballot. From loosened medical regulations to recreational weed, 2016 is shaping up to be a game changer for our industry.

The year? 2016. I’d been in the legal industry nin The year? 2016. I’d been in the legal industry nine months, and this would mark my first full year in i502.

In February 2016, a Tinder date asked if people called me Cannabess. I said, “No, but they’re about to.”

I started my account a few days later and found it easy to grow an audience. Sure, Instagram had restrictions on *garden* content, but the timeline was chronological and they didn’t have AI flagging photos. Nug shots were a huge part of my feed, and I remember the first time one broke 500 likes. Then High Times shared my photos and I realized there might be something here.

That April, I’d go from working for a single farm, to working at a creative agency which allowed me to photograph one of the biggest grows in the state. I saw SO. MUCH. W33D. And social media loved it. I’d take pictures in the bloom rooms, holding massive bins, and tubs of pre-rolls. People weren’t used to seeing it. Repost pages would share my work and get thousands of likes.

I started to shoot more lifestyle content (which wasn’t really a thing then) and it opened even more doors. I smoked joints at the top of the mountains, next to lush waterfalls, basically anywhere I could. Friends and I would get dressed up to do editorials for fun. Then brands started to want lifestyle content as a way to break the stigma of the plant.

@LazyBeeGardens invited me to photograph their farm, and it was my first time seeing sun grown plants. The photos I shot here took my content to the next level and resulted in a repost from Tommy Chong. I couldn’t believe it.

2016 seems like just yesterday, but it also feels like a lifetime ago. I was only 29, getting ready to embark on the next decade, and a whole new chapter in life. I am forever thankful for the doors the industry opened and that part of my story. It’s wild to look back on and if the growth of the next decade is anything like the last, I can’t wait for what’s ahead. 🍁🙏🏼📸

Where were you in 2016?

In 2015, I found my career at a crossroads. I was In 2015, I found my career at a crossroads. I was already in politics and living in LA, when I got a job offer in a budding industry.

Do I move to DC and pursue politics or do I move back to my home state of Washington and jump into pot?

Everyone told me to go to DC, but @wilrbyers was the only one who said to get into the industry. “It’s recession proof,” he said.

Over the years my mom would say things like, “Do you ever think about if you’d gotten into politics?”

But the whole experience really showed how everything happens when the time is right. The industry opened so many doors, was a pivotal point in my career, and eventually led me back to politics.

How did you end up in the industry? 💁🏻‍♀️📸🌱 #cannabess

- Politicians repeatedly promise to reschedule prior to elections. It’s a manipulative campaign tactic. Your conspiracy theorist friend was right and you Your conspiracy theorist friend was right and you owe them an apology.

It’s kind of crazy to look back at COVID and realize all my predictions came true. The pandemic led to a massive increase in new government debt and an erosion of freedom. Masks didn’t work and vaccine mandates were next. The vaccine also didn’t work and had a slew of life-altering side effects. Medical segregation was wrong and should never have happened.

At the time, I remember being so distraught. I got put on a “Karen’s” page (most likely by women in weed) because I spoke out against mask mandates. Clients canceled contracts. I saw my income decline almost $10K a month. Thousands of people unfollowed me every time I spoke out. People emailed me to say they hope I got COVID and died. I lost best friends of decades and familial relationships will never be the same. And guess what? I would do it all again in a heartbeat.

In hindsight, the pandemic was the best thing that ever happened to me. It revealed peoples’ true authoritarian colors and opened the door for new, freedom-focused friendships. It led me from pot back to politics, where I am thriving. I look back at the pandemic and laugh because not only was I right, I also don’t have to worry about myocarditis.

I’ve had only one person apologize for their treatment of me during the pandemic, and it truly meant more than I can put into words. It’s not too late to apologize to your conspiracy theorist friend. So put your ego aside, pick up the phone, and say sorry.

This year I shot a lot of cannabis content but bar This year I shot a lot of cannabis content but barely posted any of it. Why?

I found myself burnt out, uninspired in the industry and honestly, sick of staring at a screen. My hormones were totally out of whack and as a result, my hair kept falling out. I’d neglected my health and hated how I looked in photos. So in July, at the guidance of my naturopath, I did a 30-day detox. I quit my favorite plant cold turkey. Then my detox just kind of extended to 113 days. Honestly, the only reason I even smoked again was for a photo shoot (which I never even posted).

So anyway, here’s a recap of 2024 content that never made the feed. Maybe I’ll post more in the upcoming year, or maybe my energy is just shifting from pot to politics, where I’ve seen an insane amount of growth the last 365 days.

If you want to see what I’m doing outside of the industry, follow my personal page @BessByers where I am more active and who knows, maybe the break this year is the motivation I need for the next year? 🍁🤷🏻‍♀️📸 #Cannabess

So, my 30 day detox turned into 90, but I’m easing So, my 30 day detox turned into 90, but I’m easing back into the swing of things this weekend with one of my favorite infused beverages — @drinksungaze.

However, I like to add a little something extra to my drinks. The muddled strawberries give me flashbacks to the unlimited strawberry lemonade I would down at a popular burger joint as a kid.

I recommend Sungaze to EVERYONE (especially the strawberry citrus) because they are so tasty and the perfect micro dose. No joke. Loved ones who don’t consume say these help them sleep better at night. Friends who want a healthier alternative to wine have replaced their afterwork glass with a can of Sungaze. When I find myself in social settings where people day drink, I’ll bring these and be the last one standing.

If you’re in Washington, these are a must-try and in case you’re wondering… No, this isn’t sponsored. They’re just that good. 🍓🍋🍁 #cannabess

Sounds like a good reason to decriminalize, so people can grow their own and not be dependent on corrupt, corporate cannabis Chads who never grew prior to legalization.

Why are conservatives, including some Congressmen, taking money from big pot companies (who spray glyphosate) without proudly announcing this partnership?
