CBD stands for cannabis birthday drinks
Brittanie and I sampled the CBD cocktails at Gracias Madre in West Hollywood to celebrate my 30th birthday. Why not order a drink for every decade of friendship?
We unintentionally started with the Stoney Negroni. I thought I ordered us “the weed leaf” drinks. Alas, the combination of gin, vermouth and Amaro provided a perfect combination of bitter meets sweet. An orange peel with the imprint “puff, puff, pass” added a subtle citrus kick.
Up next? The appropriately named Sour T-iesel. This vegan variation on the Tequila Sour blends tequila blanco, lime juice, agave nectar, mint and sage leaves, a pinch of salt and the egg white substitute aquafaba. If you’re on Instagram you’ve seen these drinks — martini glasses garnished with a matcha stenciled marijuana leaf.
We wrapped our cannabis birthday cocktails with the Rolled Fashioned. Similar to the Old-Fashioned, a personal favorite, this drink combined classic spirits, sarsaparilla syrup, CBD oil and a smidgen of cinnamon. The kicker is a churro tucked in a dime bag and clipped on the glass.
All our drinks contained Ojai Energetics’ Super CBD and provided a full spectrum organic water-soluble CBD extracted from hemp stalk. This tincture is non-psychoactive, so it didn’t get us high. However, it certainly mellowed our muscles for the flight home.
If you’re in Los Angeles, Gracias Madre is a must. Located at 8905 Melrose Avenue, this vegan venue is open until 11PM and serves some of the best in town.
