Jesus Saves, but I Sesh
Jesus saves, but I sesh! Fun Fact — I grew up Catholic but didn’t take it very seriously. It’s why I’ve been eyeing this Insta-famous Jesus Saves rooftop, as well as brainstorming a punny caption, for over a year now.
Luckily Jesus answered my prayers during a recent trip to Los Angeles. I’d coordinated a shoot with the talented Chern and put this location as the last on our list. We arrived to the rooftop around 4 PM, just as the light started to get golden. I sparked up a joint, dangled my legs over an edge and thanked God for picture perfect conditions.
Cannabess the Bad Catholic
In fifth grade I played Mary in the Christmas pageant. I wore my mom’s darkest lip color and she was not amused. I still remember being on stage in front of the entire church, seeing my dad and best friend laughing while this Virgin Mary rocked a late-90’s color palate.
Maybe a year later I got kicked out of altar serving. One Sunday I decided to serve mass barefoot, because Jesus went barefoot too. However, the tipping point came after I laughed during the Priest’s consecration on Ash Wednesday. Needless to say, I am a bad Catholic!
Using Cannabis to Connect with Spirituality
It sounds crazy, but next time you get lit, listen to the Universe. What’s it telling you?
I recently posed this question on my Instagram and loved reading the feedback. @dolemiteofdagga said religion does not equal faith. @meganrose_______ shared a story where she needed to attend court mandated treatment for cannabis. They asked if it caused negative views of her religion and she replied if anything it helped me better understand the truth. Lastly, @the_schmitt_show shared “medicating prior to Sunday worship allows me to have a deeper connection and conversation with my higher power.”
While I wouldn’t describe myself as super religious, I still occasionally attend church and absolutely believe in a higher power. Cannabis helps me connect with my spirituality. It allows me to feel there’s something bigger than all of this.
