From the Seattle Public Library to MoPOP, we light up the moment with Mikey Mars
Last week I adventured around town with Q Nightclub’s resident DJ, Mikey Mars and Western Cultured. From the Seattle Public Library to MoPOP, we heard how cannabis influences Mikey’s music, his favorite strain and how he lights up the moment.
Name: Mikey Mars

Western Cultured: How do you #LightUpTheMoment?
Mikey Mars: Whether I’m at home digging through new records, just about to hit the decks, or back in the booth watching the world class talent we’re graced with in this city, I light up the moment and dive head first into the music. Nothing clears my head better than a good strain and a solid groove.
WC: How does cannabis influence or inspire your music?
MM: Cannabis and mixing go hand-in-hand in my world. From a club full of people to mixing it up with friends on a day off, nothing settles me into a mood quite like it. To be honest, the majority of my favorite sets have come in pretty close proximity to me smoking beforehand. It’s definitely a positive, creative influence for me. I think a lot of the time I’ll try new things or explore different directions in a mix when I’m high. It opens up and magnifies a lot of creative potential for me.
WC: What’s your favorite Western Cultured strain and why?
MM: I tend to stick to the sativa end of the spectrum more often than not. For me SeaTown Lemon Haze is my go-to. I love the energetic, up and at ’em high, when I’m spending more time than I’m proud to admit looking for new music. It keeps me focused but still lets me explore my creativity with mixing. Big fan of this strain!
WC: Flower, wax or pre-rolls?
MM: The past year or so I’ve essentially been back on the flower train full-time. Wax will always hold a special place in my heart though.
WC: What’s your favorite cannabis memory and why?
MM: My favorite cannabis memories have all come over the past few years. I work with a steady flow of world class DJs and producers at my job. Everyone wants to see what Seattle has to offer when in town. We’ve gained quite the reputation worldwide. I’ve been blessed to be able to share some very special nights with some of my favorite artists in the world. I’ve had some of the best talks of my life, with the people I look up to most, over a joint together after a long night of bringing crowds to the dance floor. Cannabis brings such a wide gambit of people together, which is one of the toughest tasks of our time in my opinion.
Thanks again to DJ Mikey Mars for taking time to light up Seattle with us. Whether we’re studying at the Seattle Public Library or enjoying art at MoPOP, cannabis adds a touch of creativity to our moments.
