My visit to Vitalis, a Leader in Responsible Extraction Manufacturing
Sure we all think about what’s in our extracts. But do you ever think about the technology used to make them? I recently visited Vitalis Extraction Technology, to learn more about this leader in responsible extraction manufacturing.
Vitalis produces more than extraction technology. They manufacture the most sophisticated Supercritical CO2 extraction system in the world. So what does that mean?
Extraction technology is similar to the oil and gas industry. It’s why Vitalis’ engineering team hired the best. With them, they took important components of the oil and gas industry, which are now applied to Vitalis systems.
Key Drivers of Responsible Manufacturing
Vitalis focuses on three key drivers for responsible extraction manufacturing. The first is reliability, as service opportunities for extraction equipment are limited. A broken machine means lost money, so reliability is paramount.
Next is component certification. Due to strict regulations in the cannabis industry, Vitalis wants to ensure their machines meet certification standards now and in the future. Vitalis machines are both ASME and CSA certified, to provide confidence to their clients. 80 to 90 percent of Vitalis’ materials come from within Canada.
Lastly, continuous operation is a strong focus of design. Vitalis’ machines can operate 24/7, similar to the oil and gas industry. After all, for extractors, time is money!
Besides the beautiful equipment, a couple other things stood out about Vitalis. I couldn’t help but notice the large number of women who work in industrial positions like welding. In fact, Vitalis’ very first employee was a female welder, and she still works at the company today.
The tour wrapped with an extraction pull using hops. Since Vitalis doesn’t have a processor license, they cannot legally run cannabis in their machines. To test them, their team uses hops because they have a similar plant structure.
Needless to say, I left feeling more informed about extraction technology and why your machine matters. Thank you Vitalis for having me. If you’re in the market for CO2 equipment, I highly recommend checking them out at vitaliset.com.
