A while back I found myself specifically not allowed at an i502 event. I was so bummed because after more than year of COVID, I looked forward to connecting with the cannabis community again. When I posted about my experience on social media, Mt. Baker Gardens, one of the event’s sponsors, reached out. On a recent Phoenix trip I got an opportunity to visit Aeriz, an aeroponic indoor cannabis grow. However this isn’t just any indoor grow, and it certainly isn’t just any tour host. Aeriz marks my first Arizona grow tour, and I can’t wait to tell you all about it.

Before I delve into tour details, let me share some backstory. Social media is an amazing place. I’ve known people online for years and never met. Yet it’s awesome to support their work and see channels grow. My Aeriz tour guide Jason, also known as @hip2thecrop, is one of those people. Seeing Green at Emerald Jane’s

Remember the delicious Emerald Jane’s rosin I recently photographed on my Granite Falls cabin trip? Well after emailing those photos to their team, Emerald Jane’s extended an invite to their facility. You know what I did next? Scoop up that opportunity faster than a dab of their solventless!

I first learned about this indoor grow I worked for a company called Grassworks Digital. In fact, we toured their old facility in 2016. However, a lot has changed.

Emerald Jane’s specialize in small-batch, craft cannabis. I love to smoke their frosty flower, but it’s the solvent-free Cookies and Cream rosin which has me hooked. I cannot wait for a behind-the-scenes look at their new farm.

I recently visited the home grow of my best friend’s Papa for Seedsman. Papa home grows for his Parkinson’s Disease. It’s one of many reasons access to quality genetics is so important.

Seedsman’s mission is to preserve cannabis genetics for future generations. They believe a diverse gene pool makes the plant less susceptible to disease and pests. It also provides a larger scope for research. Most important though, a wide array of strains means more access to medicine for the people who need it most.

I’ve barely begun typing, but already reminiscing on the last decade brings me to tears. If you told me ten years ago I’d be a successful cannabis business owner living in Seattle, I would’ve laughed. At that time I still smoked black market weed from friends who could get it. My oh my, how things change. So as we blaze into the roaring 2020’s, I’m excited to do a cannabis decade recap highlighting the last ten years that brought me where I am today.

2010 started out smoke free. After all, I lived in China. Today I’m pretty gutsy about smoking around the world, but there’s some countries I just won’t risk. Prior to my move overseas I watched “Locked Up Abroad” and joked with friends I wouldn’t fare well in Chinese prison. So for half of 2010 I remained cannabis free. Until I moved home in June 2010.

Today I want to highlight one of Washington State’s most inspirational women in cannabis — Ariel Casie. We recently took a tour of BMF and Lester Farms, located in Raymond, Washington. I got a BTS of these beautiful facilities, learned more about their brands and enjoyed getting to know Ariel’s work in i502.

Like most people who work in the industry, Ariel wears many hats. She is the Director of HR and Compliance at Lester Farms. She’s also very involved with BMF, as the marketing coordinator.

The Pottery Los Angeles

During my last trip to Los Angeles, I paid a visit to one of the prettiest shops I’ve seen — The Pottery. This posh pot shop looks more like a high-end home goods store. It’s certainly not what people envision when thinking of recreational weed. Alas, I couldn’t wait to see this place for myself.

When I walked in, the first thing I noticed is the chic decor. Geometric wall designs, modern tables and marble displays made cannabis look so relatable. Jonathan Adler stash jars and Malin + Goetz candles are just a couple examples of The Pottery’s luxurious accessories. Unfortunately for my wallet, I could see all of them on my bud cart!

Going Rogue with Grown Rogue

The new year means new experiences. Lucky for me, Grown Rogue has strains for all of them. I recently toured this fabulous indoor facility and their outdoor farm, for a first-hand look at how Oregon is going rogue with Grown Rogue.

Grown Rogue is a self-described “seed-to-experience” company focused on the environment, community and education. All their products are Clean Green Certified, and the team only uses sustainable, organic-based practices. Genetics are also Phylos Certified (something I didn’t know about until recently), which provides a genetic library to thousands of cultivators.

My First Cannabis Greenhouse at BA Botanicals

This Croptober, I photographed my first cannabis greenhouse. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve been in greenhouses, but nothing that compares to the scale of BA Botanicals. At over 500 feet long, it really is like a football field of weed.

BA Botanicals is committed to producing the cleanest sun grown flower possible. While this is a huge facility, they aren’t focused on yields. “We’re focused on flower for the best resin and best flavor,” owner Sebastian Stalman said. “Yield is secondary, we want connoisseur level.”
