Strain Spotlight — Kraken Black Pepper by Western Cultured

December 2, 2015

Feel Spicy with Kraken Black Pepper

Kraken Black Pepper by Western Cultured marks my first time growing the cannabis classic — Girl Scout Cookies. With its rich, peppery aroma, there’s no surprise how this strain got its appropriate name. If you like the Cookies lineage, you’ll want to add this to your lineup.

I know what you’re thinking. Why rename a classic? Well for starters, Kraken Black Pepper is a cross between two classics, Girl Scout Cookies and OG Kush. Additionally, despite the popular genetics, many companies have chosen to rename or cross their GSC strains in order to prevent lawsuits from Girl Scouts of America.

Boots, Buds and Vance Creek Bridge

October 19, 2015

Fifty pairs of boots, thirty vintage jackets, eight half-gram joints, four models, two outfits each and one northwest bridge went into last Friday’s photo adventure. Western Cultured collaborated with Fauxy Furr Vintage to shoot its first ever editorial at Vance Creek Bridge.

Fauxy Furr Vintage specializes in boots, furs and wool jackets. The company started in 2005 as a resale booth at local markets and expanded nationwide thanks to Etsy. Chrysta Colebourn, founder, describes Fauxy Furr Vintage as, “boho meets glam.”

High at Mount Pilchuck

September 8, 2015

Last night the Western Cultured crew hiked Mount Pilchuck to watch the super moon eclipse. This hike has been on our radar, so what better location to watch an eclipse rise?

Mount Pilchuck is a stunning hike. The geology, pun intended, rocks. Leaves have started to turn orange, adding pops of color to an otherwise green trail. The elevation isn't realized until you come around the last bend and see granite cliffs. Even still, we pushed the envelope and climbed to the furthest peak, unsure if the pit in our stomachs was vertigo or a strong connection to mother nature.

La Push it Real Good

August 22, 2015

La Push, Wash. is so remote, we went three days without cell reception. This allowed for long talks, late nights, afternoon hikes, sunset surfs and smoking a ton of Western Cultured pre-rolls. When you're off the grid, you get to know people.

We spent our days lounging at Second Beach and Third Beach. Large driftwood warmed by the sun was perfect for naps. When the guys weren't catching waves, they were catching fish, which fed our crew both nights. We built a massive bonfire, danced, watched the stars and felt appreciative for moments like these.

Slightly Stoopid and Stick Figure at Marymoor Park

August 5, 2015

Smokin’ Love, Collie Man, Fat Spliffs and Burning Ocean — if you listen to reggae, you’re no stranger to these classics. Two of my favorite bands, Stick Figure and Slightly Stoopid, performed at Marymoor Park last night, and Western Cultured gave both bands a very northwest welcome, with bags of SeaTown Lemon Haze.

Stick Figure opened the show. My cousin K-Bong crushed it on the keyboard, Kevin jammed on bass and Kyle, from Slightly Stoopid, joined the Scott for a duet. The crowd sang K-Bong happy birthday, since he turned 30 a few days before. No Stick Figure concert is complete without an appearance from Cocoa the Tour Dog, who happily lounged on stage.

Cannabess Hikes Lake Blanca

July 6, 2015
lake blanca

While most people recover after Independence Day, I hit the trail to hike Lake Blanca. This blue beauty has been on my bucket list and nothing, not even a patriotic hangover, could hold me back.

I arrived at the trailhead around 9 AM and temperatures already topped the 80's. The 3300-foot incline felt like forever. Sweat dripped into my eyes. I pushed onward, encouraged others and eventually made trail friends with some equally hungover hikers.

Whidbey Island for Western Cultured

June 1, 2015

Here’s to the peaks and valleys, friends both new and old, long hikes and late nights, big talk and small talk, and the adventures that lie ahead. For whatever is up next we’ll be there to light up the moment. Enjoy the finest craft flower, cultured in the land where it all began.

The Western Cultured crew spent Thursday evening on Whidbey Island. We grilled oysters, roasted marshmellows, played fetch with the dogs, took over five hundred photos, smoked joint after joint and made unforgettable memories.

Strain Spotlight — Super Lemon Haze by Western Cultured

May 27, 2015

If you could only smoke one strain for the rest of your life, what strain would you choose? For me, I’d pick something energizing, citrus flavored and filled with aroma. Is your mouth watering yet? Mine is for Super Lemon Haze by Western Cultured!

Super Lemon Haze, also dubbed SLH, is a classic sativa. This strain is widely known for its popular genetics, Super Silver Haze crossed with Lemon Skunk. Any good SLH will have a strong lemon aroma when you open the bag.

Rolling into Fourth of July weekend with a little Rolling into Fourth of July weekend with a little red, white, blue—and green! While in my hometown last weekend @courtneyjette reached out to see if I wanted to take photos. I always love working with this talented photographer and stylist, so said "heck yes" to a summer-inspired shoot.

In less than 24 hours Courtney pulled together a couple patriotic looks and brought this vintage roller girl vibe to life. I've been going to "adult skate night" at the Richland roller rink the last few months and man, this outfit really has me itching to go back. I was also told I look like a character on @strangerthingstv, which wasn't intended with the styling but I'll take as a compliment.

While we didn't see Vecna, we did get absolutely annihilated by mosquitos, which might also explain why I'm itching... Either way, 14 mosquito bites are well worth it for our roller skate summer collab. I haven't been in front of the lens lately so this adventure is exactly what I needed to get those creative juices flowing again.

Where are you smoking for the holiday weekend and any tips to keep mosquitos away? 🛼🇺🇸 #cannabess

Hello Instagram, nice to see you again! My two-wee Hello Instagram, nice to see you again! My two-week hiatus turned into two months, and here's the reason why. After seven years in my home state of Washington, I said "so long" to the expanding socialist dumpster fire and in May made the move to Wallace, Idaho.

The pandemic put a lot of things in check for me. I saw friends, family and businesses I love cave to authoritarian vaccine mandates. Politicians used the Federal Reserve to print $5 trillion in new debt which devalued the dollar further and drastically increased food prices (along with pretty much everything else). In the city, store shelves sat empty due to fears of supply chain shortages. I watched as both Republicans and Democrats perpetuated the divide felt in this country. I realized so many of the things we live for on social media don't really matter. AT ALL. So I packed my bags, peaced out, and headed for the hills. Well, more like the mountains...

Wallace is a historic mining town with a population of (now) 961 people and is nestled in Idaho's Silver Valley between two ski resorts. The entire town looks like a movie set. It's quiet, the air is fresh and I can leave my bike on the porch without concerns a crackhead is going to steal it seconds later. Small town living is the life.

You probably wonder how a woman who works in weed can move to an illegal state, but that's another post for another day. I'll just say I don't fear prohibition in Idaho and defiance of unjust laws runs in my blood. Heck, Wallace had brothels operating until 1986, so the state isn't as conservative as some might think!

I look forward to exploring my new state, sharing its rich history and blazing every step of the way. If you find yourself on I-90 between Spokane and Missoula, shoot me a DM. I'll be here, possibly playing dress-up, probably biking mountain trails and absolutely puffing fat clouds. Idaho, you already feel like home! 🌲🍁💨 #cannabess

Gearing up for 4/20 with a little help from @gpen! Gearing up for 4/20 with a little help from @gpen! Fun #throwback story: when I lived in Los Angeles, I met the founder of G Pen through the social circle I ran with. At the time I didn’t work in weed, or know much about cannabis beyond I liked to smoke it. So fast forward a decade and you can imagine my surprise to receive a goodie box from them in the mail.

The Roam is an all-in-one portable water filtered vaporizer. It makes it so easy to dab on-the-go or just lounging around the house. But there’s a bigger lesson here beyond how much I love my new G Pen—it’s to be kind to everyone. The world is a LOT smaller than you think, and even more-so in the cannabis industry. You never know who you’ll connect or cross paths with, and the universe is really good about bringing things full circle.

Now the big question—what’s everyone doing for 4/20 tomorrow!? 🔥🍯💨 #cannabess

How much weed I need to pay income #taxes to a gov How much weed I need to pay income #taxes to a government $30 trillion in debt with $130+ trillion in unfunded liabilities.

Did you know in 1895 the #SupremeCourt ruled the income tax unconstitutional? The federal income tax of 1894 was a two percent tax on all income over $4,000 (roughly $90,000 today) and marked America’s first peacetime national income tax. It was promptly challenged on grounds the Constitution requires direct taxes to be levied in proportion to each state’s population. In a 5-4 vote, #SCOTUS ruled the income tax is a direct tax and thus the 1894 law was void.

So how did we get stuck with the income tax anyway? In 1909 politicians passed a resolution to give Congress clear power to enact “taxes on incomes” without apportionment. Four years later, four-fifths of Congress ratified the 16th Amendment (IDK how, maybe they told people they’d get *free* stuff) which granted government the power to tax (cough, steal, cough) your income.

Today people say “taxes are the price we pay to live in a civilized society” while the U.S. government spends billions on the drug war, trillions to bomb the Middle East and wastes money like a drunk frat bro getting bottle service. Moreover, the IRS has a $13 billion annual budget, which speaks volumes about the abhorrent power of government.

If people want to ACTUALLY protest, stop giving government an interest free loan on your income. Refuse withholdings on your paycheck. Maximize deductions and make it as difficult as possible for the government to steal your wages. The income tax is oppressive, un-American and needs to be abolished. Our country was founded on tax rebellion, so sticking it to the tax man (or woman) is your patriotic duty. Have a happy Tax Day! 🍁🥲💸 #cannabess

Happy International Women's Day! Today I'm lightin Happy International Women's Day! Today I'm lighting up a fatty for all the amazing ladies in this space.

For the longest time I felt unhappy in cannabis. After multiple failed attempts at #cancelculture coming for my career, I questioned if this is a community I want to be part of. As the pandemic picked up and I started to speak my truth, I realized I wasn't alone.

So today is a big THANK YOU—a thank you to the ladies (and gents) who've made me view this space as a community again, a thank you to the women who acknowledge we are free to disagree, and most importantly, a thank you to the friends who've supported me through thick and thin. I seriously wouldn't be where I'm at without you.

The biggest threat to women in weed isn’t corporate cannabis or white men, it’s the toxic collectivism of cancel culture and female bullying. This plant is meant to unite us, not divide us. So to all my females (and female plants), this one's for you. 🍁🙏🏼❤️

Yesterday marked my sharing of 1,000 posts on Inst Yesterday marked my sharing of 1,000 posts on Instagram! Ok, it’s probably been a few more than that when you account for flagged and deleted posts. Either way, it’s been quite the journey and led me to reflect on all the amazing grow visits I’ve been fortunate to experience over the last 5+ years. So to celebrate #WeedWednesday I’m sharing a few of my favorites — the photos that started it all, when we didn’t have silly algorithms or battle shadow bans. Ok, lots and LOTS of weed certainly helped. A huge thank you to all the farms who’ve made this journey and so many posts possible. #ad — I still vividly remember my first time hit #ad — I still vividly remember my first time hitting a VOLCANO in college, so when @storz.bickel reached out to partner on their handheld MIGHTY+ I couldn't wait to try this top shelf dry herb #vaporizer. It heats up in 60 seconds, has dual batteries and if you're busy like me, can supercharge 80% in 40 minutes. I've used dry herb vaporizers in the past and some alter the taste of your product, this device doesn't do that. The MIGHTY+ has a ceramic coated filling chamber and easy-to-use temperature adjustment, for herbs that are a perfect hit. It truly is like a VOLCANO in your pocket, or in this case, on my piano. It'll have you playing "Dank the Halls" at the holiday party this year! 🎹💨 #cannabess

Before I worked in weed, I didn't notice a differe Before I worked in weed, I didn't notice a difference between strains. For the most part, they all and smelled the same. However, once I got my start in a grow I began to view pot from a biology POV. Just like lilies, roses or orchids, cannabis grows in many different structures and smells. But when you see buds laid out like my visit to @lazybeegardens, it really highlights the uniqueness of each strain. If you could only pick one, which would it be!? 🍁😍📸 #cannabess
